The New Ironsides

Like with my other ships, I wanted to translate the features of wet navy ships into something that would make sense aboard a spaceship.

Here, a tall ship's sails have become radiation shields and radiators, masts have stayed masts of course. Likewise, where a tall ship's broadsides are--here there are arrays of missile launchers.

First launched in 2176, the USS Constitution is the third of six Constellation-class Frigates. She was among the first true space-faring warships roam the Solar System. While lightly built, her armament allowed her to threaten, and even challenge much larger ships while keeping out of harm's way with her superior acceleration.
She soon lived up to her namesake and gained the nickname of "New Ironsides" in the Battle of Ceres, where she destroyed a cluster of the Uriel Entity's fragments at great cost. Heavily damaged, she was able to limp back to the New Boston Orbital Yards on Luna for repair and refit.
After her refit, she was assigned to protect the Evacuation Fleet when it became clear that Sol was overrun. She was the last ship to depart from the birth star and into the great unknown.
