Flying Boats of the Republic

While not as glamorous as the fighters and interceptors or as daring as the high-speed, no-guidance 'dive bombers', flying boats play just as important a role in the Phoenix Republic Navy as any other craft. They serve as the express bridge between ground and orbit, shuttling supplies, ammunition, and passengers between ships above and units down below. All they need to land is a large body of water such as a lake, or even a long and wide river. This makes them ideal for operations in both developed and undeveloped worlds.

Some are built purely to transfer cargo, such as the C-4A-7 Santana. Others, like the PC-1B Calliopes can be equipped to handle all manner of tasks such as electronic warfare, airborne warning and control, and even ground support. Some Calliopes even function as forward listening posts in far-off planets and regions.
